Dear JRMS Families,

Please read the following letter from Robert Kalamaras, Redding Chief of Police:

August 25, 2025

Dear Parents, Students, and Faculty of John Read Middle School,

As a new school year begins, I would like to extend a warm welcome on behalf of the Redding Police Department. The start of the year is always an exciting time, full of opportunities to learn, grow, and connect with friends and teachers. We are proud to partner with the John Read community in making this year both safe and successful.

The safety of our students is a top priority. Our officers will be present around the campus, particularly during arrival and dismissal, to help ensure that travel to and from school is safe for everyone. I encourage parents, guardians, and drivers to remain alert in school zones, respect speed limits, and show patience when buses are loading or unloading. These small actions make a big difference in protecting our children.

We are also pleased to share that School Safety Officer, Mike Casey, will once again be assigned to John Read Middle School this year. Officer Casey has built strong connections with students and staff, and he will continue his work in creating a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for all. His presence on campus helps reinforce the positive partnership between the school and our department.

I would like to thank both our parents and faculty for your continued partnership in supporting student safety and success. It is through this strong collaboration between home, school, and community that John Read Middle School remains a place where children can thrive.

On behalf of the Redding Police Department, I wish you all a safe, happy, and successful school year. We look forward to being part of your journey.

Warm regards,

Robert Kalamaras Chief of Police

Town of Redding, CT
